My Bloody Valentine’s long awaited successor to Loveless, m b v, was released Saturday night.

I have already heard EELS’ Wonderful, Glorious, Frightened Rabbit’s Pedestrian Verse, Richard Thompson’s Electric, and Thao and The Get Down Stay Down’s We The Common, and can heartily recommend them.

There is little doubt I will be listening to Bettie Serveert’s 10th album Oh Mayhem some time after midnight tonight.

My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James has a new solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God.

Sunshine Boy: The Unheard Studio Sessions & Demos 1971-1972 collects unreleased songs by Townes Van Zandt.

Girls frontman Christopher Owens’ solo debut Lysandre is by far the week’s new release that has spent the most time in my headphones.

For over 15 years I have been calling John Darnielle America’s greatest lyricist, and after listening to new latest album, The Mountain Goats’ Transcendental Youth, I am even more convinced that is the case.

Beth Orton’s Sugaring Season, Iris Dement’s Sing the Delta, Tift Merritt’s Traveling Alone, and Tori Amos’s Gold Dust are other quality new releases from veteran singer-songwriter.

Balmorhea’s Stranger, Moon Duo’s Circles, and Sun Airway’s Soft Fall are also highly recommended this week.

Reiissues include two vinyl discs from Sondre Lerche, Duper Sessions and Two Way Monologue.

This Week’s Interesting Music Releases – May 15th, 2012

Occupy This Album is a 4-CD box set that contains 99 tracks from 99 artists in a variety of music genres. Patti Smith, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, and others contribute to this ambitious project that benefits the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Beach House’s Bloom, The Green Pajamas’ Summer of Lust, and Plushgun’s Waste Away are also albums that I can wholly recommend.

If you can’t wait for the domestic My Bloody Valentine remastered album to arrive, these UK imports from the band may suffice: EPs: 1988-1991 and Isn’t Anything.

This Week’s Interesting Music Releases – February 14th, 2012

Shearwater’s Animal Joy is already at the top of my 2012 favorite albums list (along with Sharon Van Etten’s Tramp, released last week).

Other albums I can wholeheartedly recommend this week include Heartless Bastards’ Arrow, Islands’ A Sleep & A Forgetting, The Kills’ The Last Goodbye EP, Rosie Thomas’s With Love, and Tennis’s Young and Old.

Five Flaming Lips albums are reissued on vinyl tomorrow: Clouds Taste Metallic, Hit to Death in the Future Head, The Soft Bulletin, Transmissions From the Satellite Heart, and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
